Most organizations are unaware of individual users using things like PM
Mail.  They have a standardized desktop, and expect everybody to use
it.

Some reasons for changing from POP to IMAP is centralized backup,
centralized monitoring of e-mail, and anticipation of future needs
(maybe they are getting ready to deploy laptops and want everybody to
have the same mail system).
